if you venture
into the forest
of poetry
you’ll find a species
of tree
a floetry
and if you dig
into the soil
under the roots
you’ll find a pair
of my old
combat boots
—
i went to war
so i could write
about the true
and offer up
a humanistic
world view
now here i stand
beside a pile
of broken chains
dipping apples
in the honey
of my pains
breathe through
if you find value
in the poems
that i share
