Our deepest fears are like dragons,
guarding our deepest treasure.Rainer Maria Rilke, (1875 – 1926), Bohemian-Austrian poet…
this poem
is for courageous
readers only
for those
unafraid
to slay dragons
dear friend
dear friend
are you free
for a walk
for a stroll
with our dragons
and a talk
will you meet me
in the park
near the Yard
will you help
sort the treasures
that i guard
vulnerability
will you hold
an open space
where we can flow
where we can feel
the inner changes
as we grow
will you support
as i explore
my deepest fears
my inner demons
i’ve been fighting
all these years
intimacy
will you listen
to my music
with respect
will you honor
my desire
to connect
will you stay
for the sunset
‘til the end
‘til the wounds
in my heart
begin to mend
empathy
will you ask me
a question
about me
will you reveal
your capacity
for empathy
or will you hoard
our precious time
just for you
with a friendly
filibuster
or two
authenticity
will you show
an old friend
that you care
will you be real
to the struggles
that we share
or will you armor
yourself
inside addiction
to a story
unexamined
and thus fiction
slaying dragons
will you meet me
where i am
if i promise
to meet you
where you are
will you stand
back-to-back
on the grass
as we slay
our inner dragons
thank you

Each poem was wonderful, but I particularly liked the intimacy one - so beautiful.
In the words of Joseph Campbell, "the mythological hero is the champion not of things become but of things becoming; the dragon to be slain by him is precisely the monster of the status quo."
