preamble
i am the Universe
i am 13.8 billion years old — give or take
roughly 9.2 billion years older than Earth
trust me when i tell you this truth
it’s about Love
Love is the only way through
—
Universal Love
Universal Love
it knows no boundaries
Universal Love
it knows the way
can we hold
each other’s hearts
with loving kindness
feel the pains
and fears that flow
inside us
Universal Love
it knows no boundaries
Universal Love
it knows the way

things that bring me joy
the register of Emily’s voice
rich, dark, smooth, 70% cacao
well balanced, respectful conversations
broccoli sprouts
intelligent people unafraid to say, “i don’t know”
matzo ball soup
being-in-rooms where i feel i belong
the aroma of freshly ground coffee
waking up in the middle of a poem
avocado toast
what brings you joy?
🗣️ thank you Universe.
I don't have a good singing voice Darren so I'll whisper these quietly though I think perhaps they should be sung very loudly;
can we listen
to the words of others
as if each were friends
💚
D, I love the art, and the question. Of course you remember Sagan’s book (1980s I recall) and the subsequent movie, Contact (great movie). So in a sense, the Universe has always been singing. Recently in teamwork with NASA, scientists and artists have been able to assign notes (and even instruments) to the radio waves from outer space. I don’t claim to understand it, but I’ll answer your question as best I can. I don’t know the melody, but I’m full of hope that the lyrics are: “If there’s anybody out there, you are not alone.” 🫶
