The crook on my hill

is a dead zone,

I go there often to be silent

to disconnect the heroin.

Exceptionally powerful words Darren… I send you hope my friend🙏🏽

Great piece. The stories are so relatable.

We don't have to quit the medium, just learn to use it as a tool rather than it making us tools. Online offers opportunities to start connections that can be deepened IRL. When we are authentic online, it helps others feel better about posting in authentic ways too. The trick is to not get sucked in - that is, to become intentional. Be mindful of the time (set a timer; takes breaks) - and be mindful of the dopamine hit you are getting. Step away from the phone during meals and when with others. Don't pick up the phone to scroll when you are engaged in other activities (like watching a movie). Turn off notifications. Focus on relationships rather than likes. Choose platforms and communities with care. Follow only those who encourage and inspire. Be present, always.

This is powerful! Sadly, screens are everywhere and replacing face to face human connection.

Darren, this has got to be one of your very best. Your prose nails the (IMO) number one problem in our country today - the fracturing of the family. With the advent of the iPhone in 2007, we can now say with assurance that the effects are Generational. You capture these effects with the pathos in your expression. I agree with Bobby…Wow.

Sadly we live in a disconnected world, so different from the one I grew up in which I'm immensely grateful for. I pray this generation wakes up. Well done Darren.
